Description:

The clients came to us with the desire to remove all of the previous extensions from their home, which had incrementally been added on by past owners, to then extensively add and remodel the original Arts and Craft styled house to create a modern 6-bedroom family home. The large site offered plenty of space to accommodate new two-storey rear and side extensions, as well as an L-shaped storey-and-a-half side extension featuring a separate bedroom annex, fitness studio, changing facilities, plant room, utility room and double garage.

To enhance the original character of the house, a new bespoke curved oak staircase was added into the main two storey formal entrance hall, whilst in contrast to this the rear of the ground floor was opened up to create a large modern open plan kitchen, living, dining area, with wide sliding doors and flush threshold leading directly into the rear garden. To make the best use of the significant external space a contemporary styled front courtyard leads toward the more relaxed family entrance, whilst a new swimming pool is central to the newly designed rear garden.

Externally the design preserved and refurbished the timber detailing and features of the original front façade, whilst the new elements were styled to replicate certain elements, such as the windows, which provided a contemporary take on the traditional aesthetic. To add to the grandeur of the house, a high pyramid shaped vaulted ceiling and panoramic rear facing window are found in the master suite, along with access to a private first-floor glazed rear terrace.
