Description:

The client had recently acquired a dilapidated Victorian terraced house which needed a complete refurbishment and modernisation, as well as re-establishing the property as a single-family dwelling, having previously been subdivided into two maisonettes. Located within the sensitive location of the Crab Tree Conservation Area of Fulham, the designs required careful consideration to ensure they would meet the local heritage advice and produce a home suitable for modern ways of living.

The works combined both restoration and extensions to maximise the property and to also respect and preserve the age of the house, with the original Victorian ceiling cornices, staircase banisters and external mosaic pathway all maintained and restored. A new single storey wrap-around extension was added to create an open plan kitchen, living and dining room, greatly increasing the family space at ground floor, whilst a loft conversion with new rear and side mansard dormers added an additional en-suite double bedroom.

London stock brickwork and slate tiles were carefully matched to the existing to meet the requirements of the conservation area and maintain the aged aesthetic of the building externally, whilst a new kitchen and all new bathrooms and en-suites ensured the interior was fully modernised. Large glazed bi-folding doors were added to the rear of the extension along with a large flat skylight within the new flat roof, both combining to ensure natural light would enter the centre of the ground floor, keeping the open plan space both well-lit and connected to the newly landscaped rear garden.
