Description:

The clients came to us looking to add a two-storey extension to their historic rural detached cottage, as well as undertaking a full re-decoration to the exterior of the house to match the aesthetics of the original cottage. Set within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (ANOB) and on the banks of the Pippbrook river, the design resulted in a local conservation award due to its recognised enhancement of the older property and protected setting.

To ensure the longevity of the cottage the intention of the design was to amend and add to the internal layout in order to meet modern ways of living, such as the addition of new larger kitchen, separate utility, boot room and downstairs W.C. At first floor a combination of reconfiguration and extension lead to the creation of a new guest bedroom with en-suite and a new generous open plan wet-room en-suite to the master bedroom.

Aged hanging clay tile cladding for the first floor and locally sourced fair faced bricks and render for the ground floor were chosen to meet the aesthetic and character of the property. Whilst two new solid oak balconies were carefully added to the elevations, giving wide views across the extensive grounds, as well as perfectly capturing the late-morning and evening sunlight.
